When Sunil Gavaskar visits us....

Last week we had the privilage of having Sunil Gavaskar in our office,Siemens. Since the mail 1st float about his visit, everyone was enthusiastic about getting a chance to meet him. We all see him on Television channels more than often and it indeed was a great meeting with him.

The crowd was asked to assemble in the canteen space exactly at 11:10 since he was about to reach office at 11:15. I never thought our company has so much employee strength ! The entire hall was jam packed with people standing in every corner. Even the director level All Hands meeting doesnt get so much audiance !!

People started feeling restless once it was 11:25 and whoever came into the hall after that, started getting applauses and shouting :). After much waiting (yeah, 15 mins is a long wait for these IT guys !) finally we sensed that something IS happening outside. And here came the moment! We saw our boss bringing Sunil along with him and let me tell you, the clapping continued for almost a min !!!

He looks exactly the way he features on TV! Same height, same smile and more importantly same presence of mind while answering questions! Clad in a White Deutsche bank T Shirt and Khakee Trouser, he looked calm and into his comfort zone right from the word go. After the usual thanksgiving speech and a small honour ceremony, he stood to deliver speech.

Now here is a man who is completely from a different background as far as Cricket and any other field is concerned, Gavaskar was ready with his one liners and analogies to combine both Cricket and software field. He spoke for about 30 mins and mainly discussed how recession for a common man and bad patch for a batsman is somewhat on a similar line. The examples that he gave were pretty much logical and that impressed the audiance very much. Infact we all were so awed by his mere presence, that even if he had discussed Rocket Science or Barrack Obama or any damn thing, we would have listened to it with equal eager!

The last part of the whole visit was by far the best one since we got a chance to take a photograph with him-not individually but in a group. I even got a chance to have a word with him while he stood with us since he was next to me while clicking the photo!!

I today realise that what does that mean when we say he came, he saw, he conquered ! Sunil Gavaskar's visit certainly proved that !!!!
